Conklin Waterfront Placemaking

Date – Completed in 2016
The site was part of RMWB’s Rural Placemaking program in four communities and is 1.75 hours drive south of Fort McMurray, on the shores of Christina Lake. The project involved upgrading a central community park.
Highlights
- 818 studio led the design process, including community engagement, conceptual design, 3D modelling, construction drawings, and contract administration.
- Plaza brick pattern was abstracted from traditional Metis woven sash.
- Deck and pergola emphasized lakeshore viewpoint, celebrating the aquatic and cultural heritage of Conklin.
- Deck features a seasonal floating dock for launching canoes and solar light standards.
