Hangingstone Trail Flood Restoration
Client – Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo
Location – Fort McMurray, AB
Date – Completed in 2016
The June 2013 high water event in Fort McMurray and surrounding areas caused extensive damage to the trail system along the Hangingstone Shoreline. This included erosion at the back of adjacent residences, the Hangingstone shoreline trail opposite Lions park, and the trail between Parkview Drive and Lions Park.
The destruction of the trails and adjacent shoreline reduced pedestrian connections from Waterways and Grayling Terrace into the downtown, and significantly impacted Lion’s Park and the surrounding recreational spaces.
