This project is a component of the community of Fort McMurray’s strategic approach to revitalize their downtown area. The park is intended for inter-generational use at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Main Street with a driving goal to “create a safe park space with unique features that stimulates all senses, tells our community story, and draws people to the area year-round.” Kiyām Park was designed to be accessible, provide opportunities for small business spaces, include a water feature, and offer diverse opportunities for winter activities.

• 818 studio led the conceptual design, community engagement, detailed design, and construction administration for this project.
• Unique hardscape features and an illuminated water fountain and spray park reflect the vibrant nature of downtown. Local granite from Fort Chipewyan enhances the sense of place of the park.
