St.Patrick’s Island Bridge

818 studio was recommended to acts as local consultant to the design team by the director of Calgary Parks for the landmark St. Patrick Island’s Bridge project. The footbridge provides acess to St. Patrick’s Island, serving as both a gateway to the East Village and as an instrument through which to observe, understand, and appreciate the spectacle of the Bow River.
Highlights
- Coordinated with international team of architects and engineers.
- Goal of the design is to provide access and safety while preserving and augmenting existing ecologies.
- Focused restoration of the riparian habitat with minimal disturbance to the watercourse. St. Patrick’s Island is one of the few naturalized spaces accessible from downtown Calgary.
